GIL BAILEY WAS BORN IN KINGSTON JAMAICA. AT A VERY EARLY AGE HE MIGRATED TO LONDON ENGLAND. HE WAS AN M C AT THE THEN WORLD FAMOUS CUE CLUB AND HAD OPENED SHOWS FOR SUCH FAMOUS ENTERTAINERS AS STEVIE WONDER, BEN E. KING AND JJ JCKSON. HE STILL FELT THE NEED TO BE INVOLVED IN THE FIELD OF ENTERTAINMEMNT SUBSEQUENTLY APPROXIMATELY FORTY-ONE YEARS AGO GIL BAILEY MIGRATED FROM LONDON ENGLAND TO NEW YORK. HE AND HIS WIFE PATRICIA BAILEY BEGAN TO PRODUCE AND HOST THE CARIBBEAN AFFAIR RADIO PROGRAM ON W.H.B.I. RADIO STATION IN MANHATTEN NEW YORK. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS SEVERAL OTHER SHOWS PLAYING CARIBBEAN MUSIC, GIL AND PAT SAW THE NEED FOR A DIFFERENT KIND OF PROGRAM AND DEVELOPED A FORMAT, WHICH WAS QUITE UNIQUE AND QUICKLY GAINED A LARGE AUDIENCE. THEY CONTINUED TO BE INNOVATIVE IN THE PRESENTAION OF THEIR RADIO PROGRAMME AND IN A FEW YEARS IT HAD GAINED THE LARGEST AUDIENCE OF ANY CARIBBEAN RADIO PROGRAMME OUTSIDE THE CARIBBEAN. GIL BAILEY HAD BECOME THE MOST POPULAR CARIBBEAN DJ ON RADIO AND WAS HAILED AS THE “PRESIDENT OF REGGAGE MUSIC ” AND “THE GODFATHER”. NOT SATISFIED TO REST ON THEIR LAURELS GIL AND PAT CONTINUED TO SEARCH FOR WAYS TO MAKE THEIR PROGRAM MORE APPEALING AND ALSO TO CATER TO A WIDER AUDIENCE OF WEST INDIANS LIVING IN THE NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY AND CONNECTICUT TRI-STATE AREA. THEIR NINE (9) HOUR PROGRAM WHICH WAS HEARD EVERY SATURDAY FROM 6AM-3PM WAS COMPRISED OF FOUR (4) SEGMENTS ….CARIBBEAN GOSPEL, CARIBBEAN OLDIES, A PROVACATIVE CALL IN TALK SHOW …. PAT BAILEY’S “ LET’S HEAR IT”AND GIL BAILEY’S POPULAR REGGAE MIX . THE GOSPEL SEGMANT OF THE PROGARM , MUCH TO THE SATISFACTION OF GIL & PAT HAD BECOME THE MORE POPULAR SEGMENT OF THE PROGRAM. IT HAD BECOME AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE LIVES OF MANY MEMBERS OF THE RADIO AUDIENCE, INPIRED BY THE MINISTRY THROUGH GOSPEL MUSIC. THE AUDIENCE LOOKED FORWARD TO THE PRAYERS OF COMFORT WHICH WAS PRESENTED DURING THIS SEGMENT OF THE PROGRAM. IT IS THEREFORE NOT SURPRISING THAT FOR MANY, SATURDAYS B WASV NOT COMPLETE UNLESS THEY HAVE TUNED IN TO THE GIL & PAT BAILEY SHOW, WPAT 930AM. THE LISTENERS ARE LOYAL AND HAVE STAYED WITH THE SHOW FROM THE EARLY W.H.B.I. TO THEIR DAYS AT WNWK TO THE PRESENT WPAT 2016. THE FIRST CARIBBEAN GOSPEL MUSIC AWARD WAS PRODUCED BY GIL & PAT BAILEY TO SHOW APPRECIATION FOR THE GOSPEL RECORDING ARTIST WHO PROVIDES INSPIRATION THROUGH THEIR MUSIC TO THE AUDIENCE. THIS HAS BECOME A HISTORIC EVENT AND CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER FOR HAVING THE VISION TO CREATE A VEHICLE THROUGH WHICH CARIBBEAN GOSPEL MUSIC RECORDING ARTISTS CAN BE HONORED. SADLY PAT BAILEY SUFFERED A MASSIVE STOKE IN DECEMBER 2016.THE GIL BAILEY SHOW WAS SUSPENDED SO THAT MR BAILEY COULD BE BY HIS WIFE OF FORTY NINE (49) YEARS.
