TAROT KARTLARININ TARİHÇESİ Tarot kartlarının ortaya çıkısı görece yakın zamanda olmuştur. Uzak Doğu’da ye da Hindistan’da Tarot kartlarına benzer kartların varolduğu ye da Tapınakçı şövalyelerin bunlara sahip olduğu söylense de , bilebildiğimiz kadarı ile ilk Tarot kartları Batı’da on besinci yüzyılda ortaya çıkmıştır. İlk Tarot kartlarının üzerinde Orta cağ’a ait figürler bulunmaktadır. İlk desteler tamamen el yapımı olup elde renklendirilmişlerdir. Bilinen en eski destelerden biri , 1400’lü yılların ortalarına ait olan Visconti-Sforza destesidir. 1415 yılanda ölen Pizza prensi Francis Fibbia’nin da bir deste kart hazırlamış olduğu bilinmektedir. En meşhur destelerden bir olan Mantegna destesi çizen kişinin adıyla anılmaktadır. Bu deste beş gruba ayrılmış ve 1’den 50’ye kadar numaralandırılmış katlardan oluşmaktadır. On besinci yüzyılın ortalarında ortaya çıkan Marsilya destesi ise günümüzde de en popüler olan destelerden biridir. Bu destede Deli numaralandırılmamış olup kalan Arcına Majör kartları Romen rakamları ile numaralandırılmıştır. On sekizinci yüzyılda Tarot üzerine çalışan Curt de Gebelin (1725-1784) Arcına Majör’ün Mısır kültüründen geldiğini ve Dünya’nın yaradılışı ile ilgili olayları sembolize ettiğini söylemiştir. Gebelin’e göre bu olayda da 7 sayisinin sembolizmi basittir. Buna göre Arcana Major 22 karttan oluşur (3x7=21 + Deli) , kalanlar ise 14x4=56 karttan oluşur ve destede toplam 78 kart vardır. Bu günümüzdeki Tarot kartlarının da sayısıdır. On dokuzuncu yüzyılda Eliphas Levi Tarot’u Yahudi mistisizmi ile birleştirmeye çalışmıştır. Papus ise Tarot kartlarının Eski Misir ile olan ilişkisini ve inisiyasyon için sembolizmi temsil ettiğini ortaya koymuştur. Günümüzde en çok kullanılan destelerden biri olan Rider destesi ise 1857-1942 yılları arasında yaşamış olan Dr. Arthur Edward Waite’in eseridir. Kendisi bir Golden Dawn üyesi olan Waite, bir çok Gül-Hac ve hermetizm sembollerin kullanarak kendi destesini hazırlamış ve bunlari Pamela Coleman Smith’e çizdirmiştir. Waite Tarot’a bir çok yenilik de getirmiştir. Bunlardan en önemlileri , Arcana Minor icin oluşturduğu sembolik resimler ve bazı kartların yerlerinin değişmesidir. Waite Tarot vasıtası ile ezoterik sembolleri de vermeye çalışmış ve hepsini kapsayan bir sembolizm oluşturmak istemiştir. Bu şekilde ilk olan bu deste günümüzde de popülerliğini korumaktadır. Yüzyılımızda hazırlanmış olan desteler içinde en ilginçlerinden biri de kuskusuz Aleister Crowley’in hazırlattığı Thoth destesidir. Bu kartlarda da Mısır, Doğu, Yunan, Hıristiyan ve Orta çağ sembolleri kullanılmıştır. Tarot’un tarihi henüz tamamlanmamıştır, çünkü her kişi ya da topluluk kendine uygun olan desteyi hazırlamaktadır.
